Episode 4: Liar
“We shouldn’t have brought her here,” Drip grumbled with a hint of jealousy.
“Well we couldn’t just leave her there,” Becky scolded Drip as he sniffed at the green eyed robot doll Becky had stolen from the factory closet. When Becky had accidentally turned the robot girl on, her green eyes glowed giving away their hiding spot. Luckily the movers only told Becky to leave the factory with her friend, not knowing that the robot girl was left behind in the move.

“What if they destroyed the factory? No one knew she was inside,” Becky further explained as she picked up her shovel. After being chased away from the abandoned factory, Becky took her new friends back to the clearing to replant their friend Tree since there was a good chance Tree would be locked up in some storage facility as a moving box. He probably didn’t like that very much; he was kind of afraid of the dark. Ever since they left the factory, Drip had been complaining about the robot’s rescue.
“So?” Drip was bitter. He didn’t trust anything from that factory and he had a bit of a crush on Becky. He had never been good at sharing his toys or friends.
“So would you have wanted me to leave you in that pipe?” Becky looked at him. Drip sighed in defeat and went back to helping Becky dig Tree’s new hole with a sour pout. The fight over the robot girl was over, but he still had other complaints stuffed in his red collar.
“And why are we replanting this tree again?” he grumbled as he dug into the dirt.
“You have to replace what is taken from the Earth. If we don’t replant the trees we’ve taken, then we are going to eventually run out of trees,” Becky explained, and then added with an extra smile, “plus he’s my oldest friend.”
“There are more trees on the planet now then there ever have been,” the robot girl spoke for the first time in a monotone voice. Both Becky and Drip stopped digging, looking quickly to the robot girl with shock written all over their faces. Not only had they assumed she could not talk, she had told a blatant lie about the state of the forests.
“That’s not true,” Becky challenged. “We’re running out of trees. That’s why we have to replant and recycle.”

“More energy and oil is wasted during recycling than creating new products,” once again the robot lied, her eyes glowing green. Becky’s face was laced with shock. How could a doll say such lies? Drip, too, was in shock, but was even more disgruntled at the mention of oil. He was still rather bitter about his recent demise.
“Who are you?” Drip growled at the robot doll, stepping in front of Becky defensively.
“I’m Lucy,” the doll said flatly, not seeming to notice Drip’s wary gaze, “I was built to educate children about the environment.”
“But it’s not true! You’re telling lies!” Becky argued. Drip barked in agreement.
“I was programmed by scientists, but they found imperfections,” Lucy told them. At the same moment her red heart glowed as if to apologize for her mistakes. Becky looked at Drip in contemplation. What was going on here?

Something had been going on in that secret building, and the answer was sitting in Becky’s yard, eyes glowing green and heart beating red. She gave the robot girl a soft smile. “Well, you’re good enough for us. I’m Becky…” she introduced herself to her newest friend.
