Download Art
Download the t-shirt template from the Becky Bones website, and one or more characters from the website that you want on your shirt. You download them by clicking on the picture you want. A pop up should appear, then click save.
HINT: Make a Becky Bones folder on your computer (desktop is a good place) so that you can keep all of your characters and designs in one spot.
Loading the Template
Next, open Sumo Paint (or any other website/program that you can paint on). To get the t-shirt template on the page, you go to the top, and click on file, then go down to “open from my computer”, and open the t-shirt template.
Zooming
Size the t-shirt template to a size you are comfortable with by going over to the side, where it says “info/zoom”, and there are three options. The third one should say 100%. Size it up or down by clicking on the arrow and moving it right or left down the scale to a comfortable size.
HINT: 50% is sized to fit a t-shirt on one page. You can also use the Zoom button in the toolbar and use the + and - buttons to zoom in and out, or fit to page.

Selecting a Character
You can select your Becky Bones character to put on your shirt. Once you download it (using the same steps described in step 1) go up to the top left corner and click “file”, and then go down close to the bottom and click “import to layer.” A box should come up that says ”from my computer” or “from URL”. Click on “from my computer”, and choose your picture!! You can move your picture by clicking anywhere on the picture, and dragging it into position!!
HINT: If your picture is too large, click on the Free Transform tool in the toolbar, select the image you want to resize. Place the cursor around the selection rectangle and pull the corners in.

Adding Text
The easiest way to write words on your shirt is to click the “T” on the tool bar at the left side of the page, and then click your shirt where you want your writing. A text box will appear. At the top, you can change the size of your typing by clicking “ font size” and moving the arrow just like you sized your shirt!!
You also can choose the type of writing that you want by clicking “font family” and choosing the font. When you are finished typing, if you don’t like where the writing is, you can click on the box outline (not corners as this sizes the box) and move it where you want it.
You can change the color by clicking “color” on the top tool bar. Highlight your writing. Then move the little circle on the large color square (which should be at the bottom left corner) to the top right corner. Then use the arrows at the bottom of the color scale, and move them to your desired color, then click “ok”. When you click back on your shirt, the writing will appear in your chosen color. Once you have finished your writing, click the arrow at the very top of “tools”.

Brushes
You can make spray paint, swirls, shapes, paint splatters, grass, trees, etc. on your shirt, by clicking the brush tool that is found above the pencil tool.

Brush Shapes
You can change the brush shape by going up to the top and clicking “Brush:” A page with various options will appear. You can also get more selections by going down to the very bottom. There should be an arrow pointing down. Click that arrow, and seven different categories of brushes will come up. You can select your favorite!!
Once you click the brush of your choice, click the arrow above the brush selection, to make brush selections leave the page. The brush color will be pretty dull to begin with. To make it darker click “flow” at the top of the page, and move the arrow all the way to the right side. To change the brush size, click the arrow beside “diameter” and move the arrow left or right, to make the brush bigger or smaller (move to the right for bigger, to the left for smaller).
To change the brush color, go to “color picker” at the right side of the page. Then move the white circle at the bottom left side of the page to the right corner. Then move the arrow up or down the scale to the desired color. Then put your brush on your shirt and left click to make brush stamp appear.

Other Tools
You can use different tools under the tool bar such as: the “pencil” or the “ink tool” to draw with. There are different shapes you can use by clicking the shape on the tool bar (you can change the “diameter” and “brush shape” and “color picker” just like on step 7. It can be sized by keeping your finger pressed on the left, and moving your hand (if you’re using a mouse) or your finger (if you’re using the touch pad) to size the shape you have selected.

Cropping
You can crop (cut your picture down) by scrolling down using the blue scroll bar at the right side of your page. The crop tool is right above what looks like a white glove and below what looks like a tear drop. After you click the crop tool, click at the top where you want to start the page, drag it over to where you want the side of your page to end, and then to the bottom where you want your page to end. As soon as you take your finger off your mouse button, the image will be cropped!
NOTE: The remaining parts that aren’t inside the blue lined box will be erased and the picture will be slimmed down.

Undo
If you make a “glitch”(cool word for mistake) you can go to the top and click “edit”. The first option under edit should be “undo”. Click that and it will undo the last thing you did. (If you click the eraser under the tool bar, it will erase the t-shirt too, so our advice is to not do that!!)
In this example below, undo changed the cropped image back to it's original size (you sometimes might have to hit undo twice).
Experiment!
Play around with sumo paint so you feel comfortable and get to know it better!!
